Good Riddance

As most of you already know, Reverend Jerry Falwell died yesterday. Already I've seen posts by several people rejoicing at his death, and a few posts rebuking them by saying that it is shameful to rejoice in the death of another human being. It isn't considered polite to speak ill of the dead so soon.

Please don't take this joy from me. I couldn't be happier. I spent all night celebrating. Jerry Falwell was a miserable little tick on the ass of the human species. I hope it hurt when he died. I hope he was alone and terrified when it happened. I hope he's burning in a hell of his own making.

Jerry Falwell was a degenerate pig. He was the banner carrier for EVERYTHING that keeps this species from evolving into a saner, kinder species and I refuse to honor the dead when his life was pure dishonor. He was a horrible, hateful example of what depths a human can sink to. He advocated racial segregation, African apartheid, and the death penalty for homosexuals. He was against the release of Nelson Mandela from prison.

Falwell was a hypocrite who accepted large financial donations from cult leader and self-proclaimed messiah Sun Myung Moon. Falwell was a media manipulator who took over the billion-dollar PTL Ministries after Jim Bakker was arrested for fraud and then stabbed Bakker in the back by taking PTL straight into bankruptcy, and managed to make a personal profit on the deal. Falwell was a fevered ego who claimed he had "a divine mandate" to save America from "secular humanists". He was a Christian Dominionist, who believed that Christians OWN America, that it is their own personal theocracy and that the rest of us are second-class citizens.

He exemplified everything that America should flush down the fucking toilet. He represented the hateful among us, the hypocrites, the racists, the ignorant, inbred yokels who proudly count themselves among the 28% of Americans who still support the Bush Administration, who wrap themselves in the flag and flog themselves with the bible.

And if you don't believe me, well... why don't we just let the reverend speak for himself:

Falwell on 9-11: "The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America, I point the finger in their face and say: you helped this happen."

Falwell on AIDS: "AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals." "AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals. To oppose it would be like an Israelite jumping in the Red Sea to save one of Pharoah's chariotters."

Falwell on homosexuals: "Thank God for these gay demonstrators. If I didn't have them, I'd have to invent them. They give me all the publicity I need."

Falwell on racial segregation: "If Chief Justice Warren and his associates had known God’s word and had desired to do the Lord’s will, I am quite confident that the 1954 decision [Brown v. Board of Education] would never have been made…. The facilities should be separate. When God has drawn a line of distinction, we should not attempt to cross that line."

Falwell on MLK: "I do question the sincerity and non-violent intentions of some civil rights leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mr. James Farmer, and others, who are known to have left-wing associations."[35]

Falwell on Larry Flynt: "If Larry had been physically able and were not in a wheelchair, there'd have been no lawsuit. I'm a Campbell County, Virginia country boy. I'd just take him outside the barn and whip him and that'd be the end of it."

Falwell on feminists: "I listen to feminists and all these radical gals... These women just need a man in the house. That's all they need. Most of the feminists need a man to tell them what time of day it is and to lead them home. And they blew it and they're mad at all men. Feminists hate men. They're sexist. They hate men; that's their problem."

Falwell on people who question their faith: “Christians, like slaves and soldiers, ask no questions”

Falwell on public schools: "I hope I live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them. What a happy day that will be!"

Falwell on the ACLU: "The ACLU is to Christians what the American Nazi party is to Jews."

Falwell on televangelist Billy Graham: "Billy Graham is the chief servant of Satan."

Falwell on the bible (this is one of my favorites): "The Bible is the inerrant word of the living God. It is absolutely infallible, without error in all matters pertaining to faith and practice, as well as in areas such as geography, science, history, etc."

Falwell on the separation of church and state: "There is no separation of church and state. Modern US Supreme Courts have raped the Constitution and raped the Christian faith and raped the churches by misinterpreting what the Founders had in mind in the First Amendment to the Constitution." "The idea that religion and politics don't mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country."

And finally: "f you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being."

Fuck Falwell. Now, if only we could get rid of Pat Robertson and Benny Hinn...
